London Elektricity is a seminal UK drum & bass producer, DJ, and the co-founder of the influential label Hospital Records. Born Tony Colman, he has been deeply involved in the evolution of drum & bass since the early 1990s, playing a crucial role in shaping its musical identity beyond purely functional club music.
At a time when drum & bass was often associated with aggressive and technical sounds, London Elektricity introduced a more organic, musical approach—blending jazz, soul, funk, live instrumentation, and vocals into the genre. This vision became a defining characteristic of Hospital Records, which he co-founded in 1996 and helped grow into one of the most respected drum & bass labels worldwide, nurturing artists such as High Contrast, Nu:Tone, and Logistics.
As an artist, he released a series of landmark albums including Pull the Plug, Just One Second, Syncopated City, and Billion Dollar Gravy, all of which showcased the emotional and compositional potential of drum & bass. Beyond production and performance, London Elektricity has been an outspoken advocate and educator for the scene—hosting radio shows, delivering lectures and workshops, and documenting the culture and history of drum & bass.
Today, he remains an active global presence as a DJ, live performer, and cultural ambassador, continuing to bridge the genre’s roots with its evolving future.
